Col. Arthur S. Champeny, DSC

Distinguished Service Cross (DSC), 351st Infantry Regiment

First World War Vet Given Second Honor

Italy (Delayed) (AP)-Col. Arthur S. Champeny received the bronze oak leaf cluster from Lt. Gen. Mark W. Clark today to go with the distinguished service cross he won in the first world war.

The stocky Wellington, Kans., veteran led his regiment to victory in the bloody three-day battle for Santa Maria Infante in the first days of the offensive beginning at Cassino May 11. When one of his battalions was halted on the first night of the attack because of the loss of its commanders, Champeny assumed command, and resumed the offensive.
